Leadership:

Our core group is currently comprised of graduate students, post docs, and professors from the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and Temple University. We welcome additional schools that would like to get involved!

About Us

PEG was founded in the spring of 2016 by Emily Behrman and Ozan Kirati (UPenn), Katie D'Amelio and Dr. Jacob Russell (Drexel), and Craig Stanley and Dr. Rob Kulathinal (Temple) as a way to increase interaction among the evolutionary biologists in the greater Philadelphia area.

University of Pennsylvania

Emily Behrman

Emily is a postdoctoral researcher studying behavioral evolution in Drosophila at Janelia Farm Research Campus. She founded PEG in 2016, while earning her PhD at UPenn studying rapid evolution in natural populations of Drosophila.

Alexandra Brown

Alexandra Brown is a fifth year graduate student who studies the evolution of symbiont transmission between hosts using mathematical models. She joined PEG in the Fall of 2017.

Seth Rudman

Seth Rudman is an evolutionary ecologist investigating the interplay between rapid evolution and ecology.  He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at UPenn. He joined PEG in 2017.

Rohini Singh

Rohini Singh is a fourth year graduate student who is studying the effects of microbial infections on social traits, social behavior, and fitness. She is passionate about science outreach and mental health and wellness. She joined PEG in 2017.

Drexel University

Meghan Barrett

Meghan Barrett is a second year graduate student studying brain evolution in arthropods, wasp morphology, and the effects of erythritol on insects. She joined PEG in Fall of 2017.

Nathaniel F. Shoobs

Nate is an invertebrate zoologist, evolutionary biologist, and second year PhD student studying the systematics, ecology, and evolution of the land snails of the Galapagos Archipelago using comparative morphology and phylogenomics. He joined PEG in 2017 after attending events in 2016.

Jake Russell

Jake Russell is an Associate Professor investigating the functional significance and evolutionary histories of symbioses between animals and bacteria. He joined PEG as a faculty adviser in 2016.

Temple University

Ryan Houser

Ryan Houser is a second year PhD student studying how abiotic factors drive selection of the selfing syndrome in Collinsia. He joined PEG in Spring of 2017.

Rob Kulathinal

Rob Kulathinal is an assistant professor investigating the genetic mechanisms that underlie rapidly evolving systems and drive functional divergence. He joined PEG as a faculty adviser in 2016.
